Spurrier to Call All Plays in 2010
All I have to say is, it's about time he's taking over the offense. Per an interview with ESPN.com's Chris Low:
“I called most all of them last year, but I’m going to call them all this year,” Spurrier told ESPN.com on Wednesday. “Sometimes, you think, ‘Well, it’s probably best to delegate a little bit more, this, that and the other.'
“But, no, I told the guys the other day that I’m going to go back to doing it the way I did it at Florida. I’m going to call the plays, or else they’re going to all come through me.”
Everyone should really take a look at this article. To me, this sounds like a Spurrier that senses a big season more so than in the past.

I just don't see it.
Spurrier wasn’t sitting in the wings while his assistants drove his offense off a cliff. My main complaint from last year was that we didn’t run the ball enough. Does the pass-happy Spurrier taking over all play calling duties mean that we’re going to finally commit to the run? Probably not. I don’t see it making much of a difference either way.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m not down on this team. I think we can be very competitive next year. The SEC east should really come down to our game with Florida. If we finally figure “it” out, whatever “it” is, the SEC could be in for a world of hurt.

I agree with you to a certain degree...
But Spurrier has said that he plans to continue to commit to the run this year, and he’s making a big push to commit to Shawn Elliott’s zone-read attack, which has gotten good reviews this spring. The zone-read isn’t the old Spurrier, and it should go a decent ways towards helping our running game to transcend our line situation, which is still inferior to that of the big boys. Spurrier has basically said that Elliott will have a huge say in how the running game evolves.
I personally think Spurrier calling plays will make a difference. It seemed like there were different people calling plays from game to game last season. I also think Spurrier still has it when it comes to picking apart defensive backfields.

I agree with that. Even with a lackluster running game we’ve had plenty of receivers open. The problem comes when our QBs don’t make the throws or the WRs don’t make the catches. We’ve shown an inability to adjust to the circumstances at hand. Hopefully we’ll see something along the lines of a 50-50 split Fall, and 75% of those running plays won’t be draws up the middle.

good lord I hate the obligatory middle draw we do at least 5 times a game of 1st down.

It's vaguely reminicent of Lou Holtz's final years, right?

Spurrier's running game was a huge part of his success at Florida
He was “pass happy” in an era when throwing the ball more than 20 times a game qualified as “pass happy.”
