Steve Spurrier Weekly Press Conference Quotes | Gamecocks Online
On the offense
Shawn Elliott really is the guy that brought in a lot of what we do now. Shawn has been a very good hire as far as offensive line coach and our style of offense. The ability to run the ball inside our five-yard line, we hadn't been able to do that around here. Hopefully it will continue and the redzone touchdowns will continue because that's what we've been good at - redzone defense and redzone offense. In the middle of the field our yards are a lot like everyone else's.
Spurrier News Conference Notes: Kentucky | Spur of the Moment
It's all about how South Carolina responds to success. Will it be an SEC East contender, or will it be, well, South Carolina?
Ouch, man. Low blow.
They're better than Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.
Oh, I see. You're doing the Sour Patch Kids commercial thing. First you're sour, then you're sweet.
South Carolina was better than Vanderbilt in 2007 and 2008, and that didn't stop the Gamecocks from losing to them.
You cut me deep, Haney. Real deep. In other news...
Honestly, of the players and coaches I've talked with, on and off the record, every single one of them has mentioned Kentucky on their own.
Good to hear, but I want to see it on Saturday.

Kentucky vs South Carolina Football Preview | Saturday Down South
The much maligned South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia has the highest quarterback rating is the league, throwing eight touchdowns and only three picks.
I think it's about time we started referring to him as "the much less maligned Stephen Garcia."
Oregon ascends to No. 1 spot, Alabama sinks in Power Rankings | SI.com
Now, the faithful believe the Chicken Curse will strike in Lexington in a classic letdown game. That's possible, but if the Gamecocks realize what's at stake, they won't slip. South Carolina is good enough this year to win the SEC East -- and maybe the entire conference.
Say it with me now, folks. The chicken curse doesn't exist. (H/T: The Rubber Chickens)

Tickets Still Available for the Last Three Football Games | Spurs Up
I bought my Arky tickets on Friday before the 'Bama game. Guess who's looking like a genius now.
As of yesterday afternoon there are 3,600 tickets available for the October 30th game vs. Tennessee, including about 2,500 tickets Tennessee returned from their allotment. These have been selling quickly after the win over Alabama! Tickets are also still available for both Arkansas and Troy.

MEN'S SOCCER
No. 20 Men's Soccer Earns 1-0 Victory Over NC State | Gamecocks Online
This is what I need to see from our men's soccer team - victories and a national ranking.
The 20th-ranked South Carolina men's soccer team defeated NC State, 1-0, on Tuesday in non-conference action at Stone Stadium. With the win, Carolina improves to 7-3-1 for the year, while the Wolfpack falls to 5-6-1. Freshman midfielder Bradlee Baladez scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season in the Gamecock win.

Great Feed, FW
1. I can’t help but chuckle how Sea of Blue accidentally wrote "Kentucky Basketball: Auburn in the Rear View … which is still uncorrected. I may have been too harsh in earlier posts when I said it was all about the hoops in Lexington, but half the posts on SoB are about basketball already, and this little typo speaks volumes. Too funny.
2. Howsabout we call him Steven “Dont-Trash-Talk-Me-Just-Cause-the-HBC-plays-bad-cop-to-me-cause-I’m-kicking-butt-and-get-to-throw-to-Alshon-so-****-on-it-Paul-Finebaum-and-Matt-Hayes” Garcia? Maybe that’s a bit too much. Maybe just call him the Brah-some one like they do on EDSBS - they love him there and that’s gotta be worth something in this man’s SEC.
3. FYI there are a couple of good pieces on ESPN college football page … Chris Low sings Alshon’s praises as the best WR in the league … debate over whether AU or USC has more to prove this weekend … Im not good with the linkie thing but y’all know how to get there.
4. Travis Haney is the best beat writer to cover USC in our lifetime(s) [some of you are young enough to make me feel like the ancient mariner - which is ok ‘cause my albatross is bigger than yours]. Ive been told that he actually spends his own money to travel up to Cola during the week. Too bad he works in a dying medium with Gene Sapakoff as his boss (and Gene’s certainly a nice guy, but is a HUGE Tiger fan whether he’s willing to admit it or not).
Speaking of Sapakoff, he does have a nice piece in the same vein as Gamecock n Balls “confidence” post - … which makes me even more worried when Sapakoff says nice things about USC (though there’s just enough snark to reassure you that he hasn’t suffered a brain injury or had his personality stolen by aliens):

Thanks.
And I agree on Haney. He somehow manages to convey an optimistic tone without being a homer. I actually didn’t know he was from Tennessee until this week. He does good work.

Yeah, I was surprised too that Sapakoff has given us some praise this week.
