Definitely a great day for the Gamecock nation. Clemson losing is nice too but, whats even better is the fact that they are still not bowl eligible! I’m loving it!

Steve Spurrier's tenure is a success, as far as I'm concerned.

And he is getting his membership to Augusta, too

I would appreciate advice

As most of the other contributors know, I am finishing a master’s in Philadelphia this year and have not had a chance to see a game in person for a couple of seasons. My employer has selected me as one of six to attend an industry conference in Baltimore, and I was looking forward to the opportunity to network with others from the Carolinas and Georgia, as I have no interest in staying here longterm.

You can probably guess where this is going. The main day of the conference is December 4, the same day as the SEC Championship. I received the confirmation of my registration (paid by my employer) just this week via email, which is when I first noticed the conflict. I have always vowed to be in the Georgia Dome the first time we played for the SEC, but this could lead to tension with my employer, and also deny me the chance to make a connection that might ultimately lead me to returning home.

Any suggestions?

You asked for advice ...

so Ill give you some. Your profession, and the loyalty you owe to an employer (who in the midst of a notoriously crappy economy is paying your way to what looks like an important convention) has to come first.

Tension with your employer? No doubt. If I was your boss, I’d understand and could forgive you blowing off the main dinner to watch the Cocks in the hotel bar … but I wouldnt understand blowing off a top, high-dollar industry conference (where you beat out others in your firm?) for a ball game.

Faith. Family. Work. Everything else. Make plans for the Bowl. Go the conference.

Just my .02. Not trying to get preachy, but you did ask. Peace out. Go Cocks!

I'm with tryptic.

Go to the conference. Success at work will lead to peace of mind and the ability to truly enjoy football later.

I'll third that advice.

I’ve always said I’d be in Atlanta the first time the Gamecocks made the trip. However, Dec.4th is in the dead center of my law school exam period. Join me in being there in spirit. GO COCKS!

Reluctantly, I had come to the same conclusion

I can’t think of any way to justify not attending the conference with a smile, thought i will find time to get to a TV during the title game.

Accentuate the positive

if its a suit-and-tie thing, get a USC lapel pin (of if casual - get a Beat Auburn sticker) to wear with pride and brag to everyone you’re pulling for the Cocks …

Being a fun CFB fan is probably an aid in networking at these things - at least that’s what Ive found over the years. The Yankees will think its zany Southern charm, and among the Southrons, you’ll probably have a gang watching the game with you.

I'd stay away from anything potentially controversial.

There might be a Clemson fan there. I don’t hate Clemson like a lot of Carolina fans do, or Clemson fans hate Carolina, but there have been times I’ve gotten called out by a Clemson fan for wearing Carolina stuff at a social function.

stuff 'bout stuff.

by silver82blade on Nov 14, 2025 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

You'd feel pretty bad if you missed the convention and had to watch Carolina get whooped.

That’s always a possibility. You’ll have an awful time at the convention, in all likelihood, but you have to do what you have to do.

stuff 'bout stuff.
