This open thread is for USC-Auburn and the Elite Eight.

After the big win last night, the 'Cocks play game two of three against the Auburn Tigers this afternoon. Pitchers are Sam Dyson and Cole Nelson (4-0 3.67).

Also today is the first day of the Elite Eight, with Butler taking on K-State and Kentucky taking on West Virginia. I've got the favorites winning both of those.

I think the official pitch count was like 112. A little high for a kid coming off of an injury, but not outrageous.

Can’t say I don’t feel a little lucky when I look at that box score, but what can you say? We made some good defensive plays and got the hits when we needed them.

This is a huge win. The fact the we just shut out one of the best hitting teams in America speaks volumes about how far our pitching has come. (The fact that we allowed 11 hits speaks a little bit to luck).

I absolutely love winning low scoring games. These are the kinds of games a team needs to win if their going to be successful in the post season. We now have a chance to go for a second sweep in SEC play. Huge. Two sweeps to start SEC play is almost unheard of.

I can't see WVU winning.

But Butler has a good chance. I think K-State wins, but any team that can beat Syracuse and has won 30+ games has to be pretty good.

Butler has a good chance in that one. They're playing well lately. Everyone thought they would fall apart today, but why wouldn't a team that beat Syracuse be able to handle K-State?

Eh, I don't put much stock in mid-week games in college ball.

It’s nice to win them, but the college post season really revolves around the three game series. Those mid-week starters become middle relievers after the regular season. Clemson is still a very dangerous team. (Although the double loss to Elon is pretty mystifying)
