Tuesday News and Notes: Recruiting Updates and More
Recruiting: First look at USC opens lineman’s eyes | GoGamecocks. Good rundown of what's going on with some of the prospects we're after. As I've said before here, don't worry too much about how few really huge prospects we've landed so far--plenty are still on the board and some of them are major USC leans.

I don't understand how Clemson keeps getting so many great recruits.
Is it really that great of a school? I’ve never been up there.
stuff 'bout stuff.

They've cleaned up this year so far, no doubt...
And I definitely think they may be in the process of putting together one of their best classes in years. However, don’t forget that it’s not unusual to see them start really strong and end slowly. For one thing, I think their staff puts a lot of pressure on kids for the early commitment. That leads to them filling up their class early as well as having a lot of guys that waver towards the end after making commitments before they were sure.

Lets be realistic
I am a huge Carolina fan, but those of us who see reality shouldnt think that because we’ve beaten them off-and-on (and more often off than on) that Clemson has somehow dropped off as a football power.
1. Dabo is an amazing recruiter. I love Mangus and Beamer, but Swinney can recruit with the best of them. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Swinney brought CJ to Clemson and kept him. We’d be in love with Dabo if he was recruiting for USC. Sure, he’s not an x’s and o’s guy. Fear the day, however, that CU fires Dabo and young Dooley hires him as Assistant HC/WR coach & recruiting coordinator at UT. Or CMR does the same at UGA.
2. Clemson had a strong season last year (except laying an egg against us). Division champs. CJ focus. The ACC looks competitive (more about parity than true greatness), but CU looks as poised as any. True, we know they lost firepower and still may lose Harper to the Rockies, but no ACC team is going to blow them off the field.
3. Nice campus. Nice stadium. Good traditions. Pretty girls. Good fans. Close to Atlanta. Favorable schedule. Small college environment that (mostly) takes care of its own and can keep small transgressions out of the media or police blotter. Historically has recruited well in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, not to mention at home.
4. Gamecock Man is right … CU does emphasize the early commitment and they put on a full court press for both official and non-officials visits. If they hold most of their commitments, then they’ve done well most years.
that has been misfiring mostly from self-inflicted injuries and not because Carolina or other ACC teams have managed to eclipse them:

You're absolutely right about Dabo. He's a monster recruiter. And even if he's not an xs and os guy...
he’s certainly got his team playing smarter and tougher than Bowden did. Other than 34-17, of course. Bowden sure did have a knack for laying the smack down on the Gamecocks just when you thought his job was on the line.
