Damien Leonard Commits to Darrin Horn and USC
Big news today for the basketball program: J. L. Mann standout Damien Leonard has committed to USC. Leonard's commitment ends a long recruiting saga. Once considered a Clemson lean, Leonard opened up his recruitment after Oliver Purnell left Tiger Town, and Darrin Horn and his staff apparently made quite an impression on him. Leonard, considered one of the elite shooters in this year's crop of talent, is one of the most highly rated players we've signed in quite a while--this is a major coup for Darrin Horn's staff as it continues to try to prove that it can recruit with the big boys in college basketball. Welcome aboard, Damien.

Yeah, I saw that today on scout.com while looking up the football recruits.
I see they got an even higher ranked dude some time a while back too in Anthony Gill. I really don’t know how good the team is going to be though after losing Archie and Downey. They stunk last year even with them. That Galloway kid impressed me last year in his limited time, and they still have Muldrow, but I doubt it’s enough to draw my bandwagon fan interest.

Actually, I think Archie was injured now that I think about it, but even still.

I don't think we'll be good this year. Maybe decent...
But—unless somebody really steps up their game—we’re too young and don’t have good enough scorers to challenge the better teams on a consistent basis. But the following year, once some of the younger players mature and Leonard arrives, we could be much better. I’m excited about our program. It would have been fine last year if not for what happened with Archie and Holmes.

Well, you have to keep in mind how vulnerable they were last year.
With Archie and with Holmes, we were a tournament team hands down. Hell, we might have even challenged for the East title or ended up as co-champions like the year before. But the hole those two left was basically a gaping abyss. Most of the freshmen were just expected to be solid role players or guys coming off the bench. But under dire circumstances, they were forced into more playing time, and some had to play positions unnatural to them.
Most fans expected this to be a rebuilding year. What’s really disappointing is how badly 2009 turned out.

This is HUGE news!
I’m so excited to see where Horn is taking this program. Even though we’ll likely be around .500 again this year, I can’t wait to get a better look at his system and how this team will be shaping up with “his” players. In a couple of years, I really think we can put together something special.
