Gamecocks Work Out Thursday | Gamecocks Online
This doesn't bode well for us.
Johnson knows he will have his hands full trying to contain reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. "Obviously he's a great back, but the backup could start for about everybody in the conference. They're very physical up front.

South Carolina Gamecocks Alshon Jeffery: The Nation's Best Wide Receiver? | Bleacher Report
High praise for Alshon.
Currently, his career stats are 73 receptions for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns. This is through roughly 17 games. Five of those games were spent as a backup. So in a technicality, he has only fully played in 12 games as a starter.

I don't know how successful Jeffery will be in the NFL.
Some of those all conference players with great hands, but suspect speed, don’t make it in the pros. There are some slow receivers who do very well though. It’s kind of hit or miss. However, I think Jeffery has gotten faster this year than last year.

Yeah, it's hard to gauge who will be good in the NFL.
Being a receiver in the NFL requires a good combination of precise route running and speed. Perfect hands are almost a given. Jeffery obviously has the hands and has become much better at his routes due to hard work, but I wonder about his speed. He might be fast enough to be a good possession receiver in the NFL, but I’m not sure if he can be a 1000-per-type player. We’ll see.

by the time hes up for the draft
he could be on par with where Sidney Rice was at upon his entry. One could argue he will be better upon entry.

I have to agree with both of you.
Alshon is a great reciever but, his speed is an issue. He still has some time to build it up as well so, it is really hard to tell. Its hard to say, regardless of position, if someone will be good in the NFL. Look at all the players who have been great in collen but, then became completely horrible in the NFL. I mean geez, look at Tim Tebow. Recognized by many as one of the best college football players in hsitory but, gets to the NFL and isn’t what he’s cracked up to be. Granted he is showing some minor improvements, he is still very far away from where he needs to be to play in the NFL and I don’t think he will really get there. Just my opinion though. Its kinda like the situation with WIllie Korn and Clemson. Korn came from a great team where everyone made him look better than he was and then he gets to Clemson and can’t start.

Shaq WIlson
I do believe that if we lose Shaq this season, our defense will really be hurting. We have decent back ups but, Shaq is regarded by Ellis Johnson as the “Qb of the defense.” Our defense will suffer from the lose of leadership.

The real thing that I'm worried about is what happens when someone else gets hurt from our LB corps.
Straughter, Dickerson, and Smith seem to be coming along pretty well, but from what EJ has said, the backups aren’t ready for SEC play.
By the way, we’re glad to have you aboard as a new member of our community here. Welcome.
