Dawn Staley continues to put together a powerhouse. Per Jacksonville.com:
Lee standout forward Kayla Brewer found all that she was looking for in a school at South Carolina. The Times-Union's reigning All-First Coast girls basketball player of the year committed to the Gamecocks over Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisville and Texas.
South Carolina is coached by Dawn Staley, a three-time Olympic gold-medal winner and five-time WNBA All-Star selection.
"I chose South Carolina, because that was the perfect fit for me," Brewer said. "They have the major I want in sports and entertainment management. I also think the coaches will help me get to the next level. The experience the coaches have was a big part of my decision."
The 6-foot-2 Brewer, a junior, averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks a game for the Generals this past season.
I really think this could be a Final Four quality team in the next few years if we keep this up. Pat Summit, watch out!
